FX Renews The Americans For Final Two Seasons
Start savoring your last two dozen episodes while you can!
This just in: FX has put an end date to
the Cold War The Americans.
According to the press release, after June 8's Season 4 finale, there will be just twenty-three episodes to go: a (standard) thirteen-episode season in 2017, and then, in 2018, a ten-episode sixth and final season. (The network has "also closed new overall deals with The Americans Co-Showrunners and Executive Producers Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields to develop their next series," and whatever it is, I am almost certainly going to watch it.)
Before this current fourth season started, I opined in an Extra Hot Great Mini that The Americans should start moving quickly toward its end date. Since then, this season has convinced me that the show's creators are better than I might have thought at playing out a story slowly while maintaining suspense (GOD, it's been good), but I still think wrapping things up before they get very absurd is the way to go. Plus one of these stars has a lot of wine to drink. ...No, not the pregnant one.
