Which RuPaul's Drag Race Queens Should Come Back For The Second All Stars Season?
Mark Blankenship has a fantasy cast. Do you concur with his picks?
In case you were wondering why the sky seems a little dimmer today, it's because there was no new episode of RuPaul's Drag Race last night to teach the world how to shine. However, we can at least take comfort in knowing that, shortly after a winner gets crowned next week, we'll be treated to a second All Stars season. THANK GOD.
As of this writing, no queens have been officially announced for the cast, though we do know the season has already been filmed. And while that means "predicting" the returnees is a moot point, I'm still drafting a dream team in my head. (Note: I'm only selecting girls from Seasons 5-8, since the first All Stars round drew from Seasons 1-4. But if Pandora Boxx came back for another go, I'd be delighted. Almost as happy as I'd be if they scrapped that stupid team concept from last time. If you've got to have a short season, just make three queens lip sync and then eliminate two of them. Don't make Pandora suffer for Mimi Imfurst's mistakes!)
Below are the twelve queens I'd like to see come back for another spin. Use the comments to tell me if you agree, disagree, or feel the T!
- Trixie Mattel
Honestly, y'all, I don't get the love for this kitty girl. People online freak out about her, but when she got saved from elimination last year, I was like, "What?" Her makeup is always a mess -- and now that Kim Chi has done avant-garde makeup so perfectly, there's even less of an excuse -- and she's never actually as funny as she seems to think she is. THAT SAID, I'm willing to be proven wrong. So here's your chance, gurl!
- Ginger Minj
She might mean, but Ginger Minj is also funny and a great performer. I'd like to see her outside the context of her own subpar season. Can she stack up next to brilliant ladies?
- Kennedy Davenport
Between her Little Richard performance short-circuiting our expectations of what you're "allowed" to do on the Snatch Game and her lip sync to "Roar" putting us on permanent blast, I'm thirsty for more.
Plus, she's friends with Jasmine Masters (see below), so it would be nice to see them reunite!
- Jasmine Masters
Remember when Jasmine whispered the phrase "panties, bitch" like a goddamned oracle? She won my heart that week, and she's holding it to this day. I'm not saying she was the best contestant on the block, but I do think she has more to offer, particularly as a comedienne. I want to see her tackle a few more challenges, just to see how she tops the glorious absurdity of dancing with a loaf of bread. (That said, it seems like she may not be invited back.)
- Courtney Act
A controversial choice? Perhaps!
I know some people don't like Courtney because she seems limited and/or fake, but I still believe she's got the goods. Let's not forget the time she became an angel.
- Thorgy Thor
Thorgy obviously has more to offer, including her classical music prowess. Maybe another shot at the crown would allow her to get out of her head, stop being bitter about the success of others, and just focus on being amazing.
- Ben DeLaCreme
Ah, my little pixie!
He was such a treat in the Snatch Game as Maggie Smith, and without Darienne Lake constantly (and unfairly) harping on how conceited he is, I'm guessing we can focus more closely on his skills.
This has to happen, right? People obviously love her, and during Season 8 everybody was wearing a damn t-shirt with her face on it. Now that she's far removed from the comparisons to Sharon -- not to mention that RoLaskaTox nonsense -- it's time for her to stomp back in and own the runway for her damn self. Speaking of being far removed from an earlier season....
- Alyssa Edwards
Oh my god, has ANY queen been so underserved by her initial appearance? Trapped in that faux feud with Coco, Alyssa's considerable charm -- and great dancing -- always seemed like afterthoughts. In the years since, though, she's made some delightful web series and TV commercials that suggest she's the one who got away. Granted, her recent turn on Gay For Play reminded us that she's not the best ad-libber, but so what? I still want Alyssa to shine in a Coco-free zone.
- Chi Chi Devayne
We only lost her last week, but I still want more.
Chi Chi left her season when she was peaking, so you just know she'll start All Stars at the height of her fierceness. I'll also use this space to advocate for the two girls who end up not winning next week, but I wonder if the production schedule kept them from being able to appear.
She's definitely the Pandora Boxx of her time, eliminated too soon but still able to slay.
More weird Russian jokes, please!
- Adore Delano
Have you seen Adore's amazing music video? And the song is good, too!
As much as any queen in the last four seasons, Adore has proven herself to be a serious talent, and I want to bask in her gifts some more.
