iZombie's Stakes Rise
And they didn't even need a barbed wire baseball bat!
The zombie cure appears to have wiped Blaine's memory. Max Rager forced Major to kill zombies, but he only froze them. Major confessed all this to Ravi, then got arrested by Dale. Natalie, one of Major's "victims," says that if a cure doesn't work, she doesn't want to come back as a zombie.
Hungry For Chao$
Alert Type: Low Blood Sugar Alert.
Issue: When the FBI searches Major and Ravi's house, they find his zombie knockout drug, body bags, and Max Rager's zombie spreadsheet, which included all the Chao$ victim names. This gives them enough to hold Major as a suspect in the case.
Complicating Factors: Since Major's a zombie now, if he doesn't get brains soon, it'll be Resident Evil time at Seattle lockup. But while his lawyer, hired by Du Clark, is a a good defense attorney, he's bad at unwittingly getting Major his brains.
It doesn't help that though Dale's case against Major remains weak -- there are no bodies, no reliable witnesses, and no direct forensic evidence -- Clive's Meat Cute case just got really strong, after the guy who sold Major the weapons he used to raid the place came forward after seeing him on the news. So just as Major's released on the first case, he's locked up again for the second, still without getting anything to eat.
Resolution: Liv and Ravi go to Major's storage unit to defrost one of the zombies -- after all, if one of the victims appears, there goes Dale's case. But they're all gone! Apparently, they were scooped up by Max Rager, which knew all along that Major was just freezing people? (Better not to ask too many questions about that part, it doesn't hold up in daylight.) There's one other option: Liv can give Major the cure, but she's loath to since it'll wipe his slate clean as it did Blaine.
Spoiler: You know how I've been saying everyone just needs to tell everyone everything? Liv finally listened to me!
Who called the meeting? Vaughn Du Clark.
What's it about? Vivian Stoll, of defense contractor Fillmore Graves Enterprises (described by Du Clark as "like Blackwater but less cuddly"), is videoconferencing with the Max Rager board as Vaughn does a song dance and push-up show designed to convince her to buy the company.
How'd it go? Fantastic! Viv agrees to make the buy, as long as Max Rager isn't publicly linked to the Chao$ Killer. No need to consult the SEC regarding the sale of this publicly-traded company; Janko just needs to kill Major and Liv and it's full-speed ahead with the sale!
BrainteaserQ Do you guys think Blaine is really a "good guy" now? When Liv couldn't afford Don E's demands for $25K per month for brains (why didn't she turn to Blaine and say "you know you're the boss, right?"), Blaine sneaks her some later...and that's not his only selfless act in this season's finale. Is this for real?A Reply hazy, ask again later.
Liv is out of options -- Major's going to go full Z soon unless he gets either the cure (which he's fine with, but she isn't) or some brains. That drives her to do something she should have done, say, mid-Season 1: tell Clive everything. She goes to his apartment (which is very nice!) and spills the beans. Clive, understandably, thinks she's crazy or high. So she stabs herself square in the chest with one of his kitchen knives, goes red, then pulls it out, saying, "Do you believe me now?" It's pretty badass! And insanely gratifying.
Wait, You Guys! You Were Doing So Well!
Situation: A now zombie-woke Clive crapped up Dale's case in order to get Major out.
What makes it awkward? Dale storms into Clive's apartment all WTF honey? Clive was the only one who knew Dale's case had a witness reliability issue, so she accuses him of leaking the intel to Major's lawyer. On top of that, she says that it sounds like Clive mucked up the evidence in the Meat Cute case. And now Major is out of jail and cleared of all charges! What gives, Clive?
How is order restored? I was just so happy that the show was finally allowing its characters to communicate like normal human beings, and now this! As opposed to explaining the situation to Dale or, I don't know, even telling her in advance, Clive stands there basically mute as she dumps him.
Fight! Fight! Fight!
As ordered by Du Clark, Janko has arrived at the morgue to take Liv out. While she talks pastry options with Ravi, Janko knocks her out and tosses her in a body bag. Entering, Ravi realizes what went wrong and knocks Janko out with a fire extinguisher. Ravi revives Liv with an epi-pen just as Janko bursts back into the morgue, and absorbs the knock-out injection he nearly shoots into Ravi. The men wrestle on the ground, and the injector goes off one last time.
Winner: Ravi. Janko had set the knock-out meds on a dose fatal to humans, so he's a serious loser. How serious?
Well, guess who's on this bagel?
Back at Liv's place -- which now houses Peyton, Ravi, and Major -- the latter's brain-induced riffing on the drums inspires a Janko-brain vision for Liv. It's Drake and all the other Chao$ cubes, in Max Rager's basement. They're still alive, and it's up to Liv and Major to save them. Here, Major, have some Janko brain!
Boss Bust Burned
Alert Type: B-Plot Alert.
Issue: We're in the last hour of the season and we're spinning our wheels with this Boss bullshit when we could be kicking ass at Max Rager.
Complicating Factors: OKAY, FINE. The mayor has pulled the plug on the Get Boss task force, I guess because Blaine lost his memory? All Boss knows is that now that "Seattle threw in the towel, I own this city." And yet, you are now one of the only people we know who has no idea that there are zombies all over town!
So when Boss learns that Lucky U is still on the street, he sends his guys to off Don E and Chief. Chief is definitely done for this time! Then Blaine walks in, which is a big shock to the guy who killed him.
Blaine takes off, and Don just takes a couple rounds to the chest so I'm sure we'll see him again in Season 3.
Resolution: Blaine heads over to Liv and Peyton's, in hopes that the latter will protect him.
Spoiler: The protected will become the protector.
That Quote"Cut his head off and bring it to me in a hat box. This is Seattle, not Sleepy Hollow"- Stacey Boss, on the news that Blaine still lives -
Bad Bad Bad Bad Boy
Peyton's all bummed about the borked Boss investigation, so Ravi tries to distract her with some banter about his plan to become a bad boy. Now they're getting it on!
Cards On The Gurney
Who called the meeting? Clive.
What's it about? Liv and Ravi are giving Clive the rest of the zombie T when Major comes in. He thanks Clive for getting him out of jail, and they make peace.
How'd it go? Clive is doing a pretty good job of absorbing this zombie stuff, which is in many ways a testament to how tight his bond with Liv has become. But he's still Clive, so when Major and Liv start making a plan to break into a Max Rager party to save the Chao$ cubes, he tells them he can't participate without a warrant. "I wouldn't expect you to," says Liv. "This is a zombie thing."
The Dumbest Scientists In The World
Hey, guys! Remember those boat party zombies? I found their Utopium! I am sure that these drugs are completely unrelated to the massacre that night. Let's all get wasted on this shit at the party! And if you had any doubts that I am an idiot, I just said "boyeeee!"
Why are the Chao$ victims still alive? This answer actually makes sense: it's so Max Rager can experiment on them to find a cure for Gilda. One cure already fizzled and sent a guy into full Z, so Drake sacrifices himself as the next subject.
What's the occasion? Max Rager's been acquired, so Du Clark's throwing a prison-themed (because: Super Max ha ha or as Clive disgustedly says, "white people") "lock-in" in the company's basement parking garage.
What are the refreshments? The sweet sounds of Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas! And annoying cocktails, served by Liv and Major. They're disguised as cop-costumed caterers, but they're hoping to find one of Major's clients and convince him to let them into the basement to free the Chao$ kids.
Whose big public scene will everyone be talking about tomorrow? Major's client is that same dummy who dug out the boat party Utopium, so now you know why my notes read "OH FUCK" in 20-point font. Those morons do the U and wash it down with Super Max. You can guess what happens next.
On the plus side, they save Major, Liv, and Clive (who got worried about Liv and talked his way into the party! I love Clive) from Du Clark's goons. On the minus side, they kill pretty much everyone else at the party. But, on the plus side a second time, they kill Rob Thomas.
So I'll call it an overall positive.
Plot Lightning Round
As Ravi and Peyton argue over Blaine's presence in the apartment, Blaine heads out to get some food. That's when Boss's thugs come by looking for him -- and they pistol-whip Ravi and abduct Peyton, assuming that Blaine will come save "his piece of ass." Because they think Blaine is a chivalrous guy? Well, the new Blaine is: when he returns and finds Ravi, he says they need to go get Peyton. (As previously noted, I'm so annoyed by this subplot! I'd be so much happier if Blaine was at the Max Rager party blowing ammo with Liv, Clive, and Major. Admit it, that would be better than this.)
Speaking of the Max Rager party: Liv and Major hack off a basement worker's hand so that they can free the Chao$ victims. But as they do it, even more zombies burst in. The zombies don't care about Liv or Major -- only Clive. As they get cornered in the parking booth, Liv offers to infect Clive to save him from being eaten alive.
But before it comes to that, it's defense contractor Viv to the rescue! She takes all the zombies out. Like a boss!
And speaking of Boss for the last time this season (thank god), Blaine and Ravi grab some weapons from Shady Plots, and Blaine storms Boss HQ and saves Peyton.
Wrap It Up
The severed hand works, and Liv, CLive, and Major make it to the basement. There they find Gilda, who is still a total bitch but agrees to help them get to the locked area where the Chao$ folks are. But as she does that, Du Clark appears and locks Liv and Clive in with the Chao$ folks, leaving Gilda and Major on the other side.
That's when Liv realizes that Drake has gone full Z. Du Clark releases Drake, and he attacks Clive. Liv shoots Drake in the head.
Du Clark also tries to sic a zombie on Major, but they aren't biting. Plan B: Du Clark releases knock-out gas, intended to put Major to sleep. Major shoots Du Clark though the glass, chases him to the elevator, and then leaves him to his fate.
Upstairs, Clive and Liv have stashed the Chao$ victims in Du Clark's office. As they head back out, the elevator door opens and a full Z Gilda runs out, only to get The Professionaled by Major. It's very satisfying.
As Major questions the Chao$ victims (some of whom recognize him) about Natalie's whereabouts, a bunch of Viv's mercs show up and want to take control of the scene. Clive is not down with this, so he stays with the victims as Liv goes to find Viv.
Viv's feasting on Rob Thomas as her underlings play one of Matchbox 20's greatest hits. "You ready for the new world order, Olivia Moore?" Viv asks. "Seattle's going to be the capital of the zombie homeland...so are you with us, or against us?"
