BBC Renews Call The Midwife For Three More Seasons

Good time to invest in Kleenex.

What happened? BBC has renewed Call The Midwife -- which PBS airs in the U.S. -- through Season 9. That's three more seasons! Plus Christmas specials!

Why has this happened? Though I would be lying if I didn't acknowledge that the near-total lack of Miranda Hart's Chummy the past few seasons has made me love it less (see also: the sidelining of Pam Ferris's Sister Evangelina), it's still a wonderful show, portraying history through the lens of women's experiences and offering a strong social justice message without being preachy -- yes, even though half the characters in the opening credits cast are nuns. It's just so good.

What do I do now? If you need an emotional catharsis -- or just something to watch with your mom this long weekend -- the five seasons that have aired so far (a sixth had already been greenlit) are streaming on Netflix. But be warned: you will cry.
