Has Norma Officially Passed The Fashion Torch To Emma?
Collecting the most notable looks of the latest Bates Motel.
Dylan gets a sexy new supervisor, Cody narcs on Norman for his blackouts, and Norma gets one step closer to her dream of stopping the bypass by breezing onto White Pine Bay City Council thanks to George's endorsement! But never mind all that: what of this week's looks?
The real story of the latest episode is that Emma has taken over clashing-print supremacy from Norma. Early on, we see her wearing a sweet floral print cardigan over a tomboyish stripy top; later (when Cody comes by to tell her about Norman's weird fugue states), it's a tiny-print floral dress under a butterfly cardi. Emma may not be learning a lot about running a business from Norma, but at least she's taken in some good lessons on being bold with print!
Perhaps it's just this boldness that has caused Emma to sally forth fearlessly in her relationship with Gunner! Would her father approve of her going on a picnic with a known drug dealer? Probably not. But he couldn't be mad at this prairie-ish-print dress, worn with a heart-patterned cardigan, brought into the modern age with cute suede ankle boots. Much more practical for a hike than those wedge sandals last week.
And of course when Emma wears a swimsuit, it's a chaste one-piece with fun vintage-y details.
This is the SECOND pants look for Emma this episode (and maybe the second for the whole run of the show?), but she wouldn't be Emma if she didn't pair them with a cardigan straight out of ModCloth, or the like.
By comparison, Norma's looks this week kind of pale in comparison, literally. Here's a cloudy around-the-motel ensemble; the paisley print is fun, but it would be stronger in a brighter shade.
Norma walks the feminine/businesslike line for her meeting with the mayor (and trades her usual jute-sided wedges for buff pumps), but is that a bodice made to look like a faux jacket? Oh, NORMA.
"What should I wear to take Norman to his driver's test? Maybe a Ukrainian-embroidered blouse? Surely that homey top will soften the blow if I suddenly have to tell his examiner that he probably shouldn't get his license because of his blackouts...."
...So just the one bra, then, Cody? Since we saw you in this one last week? Okay.
